Zentimo 1.5 released! Happy New Year!

Dec 26th, 2011

We are more than happy to announce the new release of Zentimo 1.5 just five days before New Year’s day! The new version includes improved user interface, unicode support, lots of new options to configure the device menu, added help file and minor bug fix.  Download now or read more below.

New stopping menu

The stopping menu was significantly reworked to give you more convenience, especially when you have many devices. Now it’s less cluttered and better focused on main details – drive letters and volume labels. You’ll never lost your drive in the list! Compare the old and the new menus below and tell us if you find the newer more convenient for you.

Its behavior was also became more convenient and smart: there’s no “stop” button anymore, and you can stop a device clicking to its row (earlier it was available through the option). Moreover the device will be removed safely even if you click its drive row, of course when you click the card reader’s drive the card will be ejected rather than the card reader.

Improved Options look and feel

Full Unicode support

Now you can choose any language supported by the program and it will be displayed correctly even if your system language is different. It’s a great news for people who are using non-Latin characters on their computers since they will never have issues with garbled texts in the program. If you are an English-speaking user you get no benefits from this feature… apart from you may have fun changing the program language to Arabic or Chinese. They look so cool :)

“Apply” button

Using this button in the device properties or program options dialogs you can apply the changed settings and see how they influence the program without closing the options dialog

Full user manual

Despite we strongly believe our program is intuitive and user-friendly… per your many requests we created the detailed user manual :) The manual is integrated into the program and accessible via F1 button. Also there’s online version of the manual.

New options

We analyzed your requests and added many options to configure the menu you asked us about. Now you can change the device icon size, hide storage device names or volume rows and etc. Those who have many storage devices perhaps will like these options since they let them reduce  the space that the menu occupies on the screen.

E.g. by disabling the “Display storage device name” option and using “Large” images you can make your menu significantly more compact, which is  useful if you have lots of external drives:

or even more compact if you also disable the “Display storage device volume” option:

Or just so ascetically simple, with no control buttons at all (the “Simple menu” option):

Note that the control buttons are still available from the context system tray menu (available via right click to the system tray icon):

Another improvement is device sorting in the menu. The devices are now sorted by drive letter by default, but you can set sorting by device name or volume label as well.

Be happy and have fun in new coming year!

How to upgrade? Just download using the blue “Download” button and run the installer, it will do the upgrade automagically. If your upgrade subscription is over feel free to extend it.

Thank very much, Happy new year ;))

        • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

  3. avatar Armin says:

Nice new features – Thanks and happy new year!

  4. avatar Essie says:

I like the new features. I was playing around with the look and feel options and found a bug issue. Once I click on the “simple menu” option, I can never disable it. Worst yet is once I closed the option menu, I can never go back to it because with the simple menu, the option tool link is removed. The only way for me to disable the simple menu and get back the option tool link is by going to the registry and manually change the value for “display volumes” to 1 and “simple menu” to 0. Now I am back to being a happy camper.
Regardless of the little mishap, I am happy with the new features offered in this version.

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

      Hi Essie,

Thanks for the feedback! Actually the options in the system tray menu are available from the context system tray menu (available via right click to the systray icon):

Just in case I added this note to the description above.

      • avatar Essie says:

Thanks Igor for the tip. For some reason, I never thought of right clicking on the icon to get to the context menu. I always hover over the icon and got use to just seeing the regular skin theme. Thanks for the tip, now I know. :) Happy New Year everyone!!!

The 1.5 release highlights drive letters and volume labels, while the old version focus on description of the device. I think many users, like me still prefer the old looking.
I suggest to allow the user to detemine the focus, why not add an option like
    1. drive letters and volume labels
    2. description of the device

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

What do you think about these two color schemes:

Are one of them is something suitable for you?

Also I wonder why do you need to have focus on device names? I’m wodering because usually all operations with external drives are around drive letters. Meybe it’s a good idea if you send us the screenshot how your device list looks like.

  6. avatar diana says:

I agree that the new way of highlighting drive letters is not as good as the old for me.  If you look at your screen shots of menus above, which are the easiest of all to read to you honestly?  Black text on a white background, bolded for highlighting, is far easier to read than any soft blue text in any menu to me, how about that option for the app system wide?  It might look pretty to you now but I’d rather have readability in the areas that count, blue can still be used in icons, borders and lines.  Blue text on white just looks out of focus to me when compared to black on white.

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

Are you asking for something like this?

If yes, you can just switch the skin to Classic (Options -> Skins)

      • avatar diana says:

That looks like gray (RGB 145,145,145) and blue tinted text for  the description of the device and size. And it’s not a pure white background at RGB 240,240,240.  The only true black appears to be the drive letter and name, parts of the lettering in the title and hidden devices but against a dingy looking background it’s not so sharp either.  Nothing is high contrast in that dialog.

  8. avatar Luciano says:

The simple menu is very nice ( as i suggest in the past ) but pls insert the old remove-ico like the old version

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

      Hi Luciano,

What remove icon do you mean?

      • avatar Luciano says:

when you are in Simple menu, in the Stopping menu  instead Quick Launch menu ico and Click to browser device  drive (*) insert the (old)  Click to safely remove the device
I hope clear clear : if not pls tell me
(*) I’m curios to know who use this ico to browser the device :)
        Thanks !!!!

        • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

Now you do not need a special icon to stop a device. Just click to the device row and it’ll be stopped. If you still think that you need the gone remove icon just tell us why :)

          • avatar Luciano says:

Igor thanks for your CLEAR answer!!!.
I suggest the (old) Click to safely remove the device
because: 1. my users don’t use never Click to browser device  drive ico, 2. If I update the apl from 1.4 to 1.5 i must inform all users that now the device will be removed with a click to the device row (instead the old ico).
            Again thanks!

  9. avatar Cetrin says:

    Very nice software, thank’s
    Happy new year for all……………!!!

  10. avatar franco says:

Please  ask  to Avira Antivir to remove your download page from list of  malware site , every time I must download an Zentimo Upgrade I must connect to other site as Cnet  or others.

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

We have already reported them but didn’t received a reply. Perhaps if you also contact them on this matter as a user of their antivirus they will be more responsive.

      And Happy New Year too!

  11. avatar franco says:

Sorry… I forget… Happy new year to all you

  12. avatar ToJ says:

Great feature, i love it so much, have a healthy and prosperous 2012!
    Thank you

  13. avatar Lương Thanh Long says:

    Happy new year to all!

  14. avatar Bennet Immanuel says:

    Hi Igor, Happy New Year!!
I am a happy user of Zentimo. When I read through this page I found a line saying,
“How to upgrade? Just download using the blue “Download” button and run the installer, it will do the upgrade automagically. If your upgrade subscription is over feel free to extend it.”.
I think the word “automagically” is a spelling mistake (automatically?). Kindly correct it if it is a mistake, otherwise please ignore it. Sorry for bothering you :)

    • avatar Bob Roos says:

AutoMagically is a cool non-word and I think quite appropriate.  I hope you keep it.  I have used it myself many times.  :)

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

Bennet, thanks for note! As Bob said above it’s just an artifical word created from “automatical” and “magical” aimed to show that something is done automatically but with elements of a magic :)

      • avatar Bennet Immanuel says:

That’s fine :) I should improve my English vocabulary :)
BTW the new version is great. Keep up the good work.

  15. avatar Martin says:

    Happy new year!
thanks for the new version of zentimo. It looks very nice.
But it wouldt be so much nicer to have zentimo with hotkey support for ejecting the CD trays of my two drives. Please, please, can you add this feature in the next version? Thank you very much!

  16. avatar Hoàng Anh Tuấn says:

    Excellent Program !!!!

  17. avatar Michael says:

Do you plan to add a feature to assign drive letters to devices which do not get one assigned by the OS? IMO there are different terms for those devices like MTP, MCP or similar.
Would be fine since smartphones or table PC don’t always get a drive letter assigned and some programs required it to e.g. synchronize data.

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

      Hi Michael,

It’s definitely a good idea and we will consider adding it if other people ask about it.

      • avatar Michael says:

Ok! Sounds good, so folks lets give Igor good reasons to add this feature and ask many times for it ;-)

  18. avatar Alexander says:

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

Zentimo PRO.

  19. avatar Cjavier says:

Muchísimas gracias y un Feliz Año 2.012.

  21. avatar Tenil says:

Excellent program, really loving it!! :D
Please, please, add an option to play a sound whenever a device is connected or disconnected; this is a minor feature which is already available in the windows default USB manager. Please and thank you. Happy new year!!

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

It will be added in one of the closest versions. Also note it’s already available when program works under Windows 7.

  22. avatar Pham Thu says:

    Excellent manager disks tool.

  23. I have downloaded the file repeatedly, yet every downloaded file reports “file corrupted, get another copy.” What’s up?

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

      Hi Ole,

Try to clear the cache of your browser and then download the program once again. Read more how to clear the cache here: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

This is not the first time when you cannot download Zentimo. However we haven’t received complaints from other people regarding “corrupted file”. Perhaps you have an unstable connection to the internet. in this case I highly recommend you to use either a download manager like FlashGet or Opera browser with an integrated download manager.

  24. avatar NeMogu.NET says:

  26. avatar William says:

    Hi There
Will there be a forum for Zentimo discussion in the future?

  27. avatar la says:

I’ll stick to the old version. I don’t need those additional changes. I’m satisfied for the old version.

  28. avatar hengameh says:

Hello. I am blind, I found it useful, but it doesn’t play a sound while plugging in a device.  thank you.

  29. avatar Marco says:

Hallo. In my PC I have 3 internal HD:
    C:\ (system disk)
    D:\ (data disk)
    S:\ (big storage disk)
Some day ago, without any apparent reason,  Zentimo 1.4.1 started to show me D:\ in the list of attached devices. I know I can hide it, but it still remains in the list of hidden devices (obviously).
I tried to upgdate Zentimo to the last release, but nothing changed.
Do you have any idea about what could have persuaded Zentimo to show me the disk D:\ while successfully and happily it continues to ignore C:\ and S:\ ?
