Device disabling

With this feature you can disable or deactivate a device. This is the same as safe removal but the device stays disabled after the OS restart and even if you reconnect it or its USB hub. This option is very convenient if you wish to stay device connected physically to the computer but don’t need it to be active avoiding it to consume power (works if the option “Power off the device after device stopping” enabled) and being accessed by malicious software.

Return device back without restart of other devices

When you return devices back the previous versions actually reboot the USB hub where this device is connected to. When you have other devices connected to this hub they were reboot as well. It might be not convenient especially if you have wifi or LTE modem among the neighbor devices. The new version uses a different way of device stopping that allows to reactivate the device without affecting the neighbor devices. If for some reason you need to revert back to the old way of device stopping\returning you can use this option:

Device error displaying

If some device has improperly configured drivers or has not loaded in a correct way by the system the program now displays that.

Other changes

  • Better displaying of technical information
  • Command line: “return” and “forcedreturn” commands returns separated error code if they are called on an active device
  • Various improvements in language files (Italian, Russian etc)

Bug fix

  • In some cases the native safely remove hardware icon may not be hidden
  • Duplicate autorun process could be run on OS startup
How to update from the previous version?
Just download and install the required installer over the previous version. You do not need to uninstall the previous version. If your upgrade subscription is over feel free to extend it.

Well again I got sucked into this update without realising that I’d have to pay for an update and why, because you don’t tell me it’s a paid update. I’ve had this conversation with you guys I think last year…of course the ‘revert to previous version’ does not work…again but surprisingly, the enter the licence key does. Your process has managed to yet again tick me off with yet again the same thing occurring. I don’t want to pay for a subscription and now I need to get back to a previous version.

      Hi Alan,
I apologize for the inconveniences you had. ‘Revert to the previous’ version doesn’t work because this button just opens browser with a page where you can download a previous version. If it doesn’t work it means you (or some software) reset the default browser settings. Without default browser setting many things on your PC will not work so it’s better to setup it, find here how to do that: https://www.wikihow.com/Change-Your-Default-Browser

Also you can download the previous version here: https://safelyremove.com/allVersions.htm . Your available version is probably 5.3.

Just for people who don’t deal with software installs and uninstalls much – if software that’s not required/desired any more needs to be reverted to an earlier version, it’s good practice to uninstall the later version (eg from Programs and Features, which might ask you to confirm and ask you to elevate to admin mode), then restart the PC, and then install the earlier version from a downloaded setup file.

To Alan Kroll: Thank you Alan for letting us know that this is a paid update. I am disappointed by this. I was on the understanding that, like most software these days, the ‘point’ upgrades were included in the original purchase price and that the ‘main’ new updates (i.e. v7.0) would be chargeable. My current version seems to be doing an OK job so I’m not really minded to pay for this ‘point’ update. CrystalRich, why is it not made clear that this update is chargeable BEFORE it is downloaded to save such a hassle? A better question would be “why is this point update chargeable at all?”.

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

      Hello Brian,
First of all regarding our upgrade policy, besides lifetime licenses that comes with upgrades for all future versions, we have licenses with one or two year of upgrades. And these last two are quite common in current software world. But in some cases we prolong even these terms as was with the previous versions 6.1 and 6.1.5. These updates were free for users of the previous version even for licenses with expired terms.

Next, it seems your license key comes with lifetime upgrades so you can upgrade to this and all future versions for free.

  3. avatar David says:

Why didn’t any of you buy a life time license? There wouldn’t be any misunderstanding. I don’t buy any software that doesn’t come with life time license.

    • avatar Santi says:

@david, well, that is what you’d hope. Why even sell these odd updates. At least have a login or something to the app, so you’ll know what I’ve purchased and I don’t need to update at all. Clicked the rever to previous, and it takes me to a website, rather than the software actually reverting.

      • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

        Hi Santi,
The program displays the license terms in the About window (right click to the program icon -> choose Help -> About):

Also you can see it in the license key message, if you lost it you can always restore with this form.

As for “revert” that took you to the web site we will consider making it more convenient but it’s not so easy.

  4. avatar Julio Miyamoto says:

    Por favor, quanto custa a atualização normal ? e a vitalícia ?
    Grato pela ajuda.

  5. avatar Jason says:

I purchased the lifetime subscription approximately a year and a half ago. I assume this update is free for me. Correct?

  6. avatar Ivan B. says:

That link to extend subscription in this blog points to Zentimo instead of USB Safely Remove! As a result, I ended up buying the Zentimo license instead and the license key do not work on USB Safely Remove. Darn…

    • avatar Igor Tkachenko says:

      Hi Ivan,
Thanks for note on this issue. I’ve fixed the mentioned link and also I’ve refunded you the difference in the price and send you the lifetime license for USB Safely Remove instead of the license for Zentimo. I’m sorry for the inconveniences you had.

I got this originally as GOTD freebie (few years ago) and tested it out, it was okay, it worked. Since then, with new programming standards/requirements/business rules at clients and other development GIT forums, any software/app/functions/programs originating with/from a Russian entity is banned from all my client’s systems/networks/platforms for security reasons, so had to remove this and Belarc from all my client platforms. If you take a look at some of the API offerings with MS for Win10 PRO, you will see there is already a function like this that can be used instead. I just wrote a wrapper around the API and it works fine, when I have the time, I can add some additional GUI to it. This USB function was handy, but with the ban of any Russian products on any platform, it was easier to just wrapper my own function. I will concur at the price of $45 for a Lifetime license is not a bad deal, since based on their message that it can be installed on all your workstations/devices. Just an FYI, if you decide to install this on your workstation, make sure you have an anti-tracking bots/rootkits that will destroy any nefarious bots from the installation. In our development we have located/identified many nefarious bots from Russian installed apps. With that disclosure, I have not found any with USB Safely Remove app, but proceed with caution of any apps that originate from Russia.
